Happy Canda Day!

Happy Canada Day my fellow Canadians!

Man was it hot today. There was the slightest breeze blowing as I walked down to the Parliament buildings. When I finally got down there the crowds were packed like sardines along the sidewalks and all traces of the breeze had disappeared. The weather was beautiful; bright sun and little to no clouds. This is the set up for tonight's concert. Unfortunately I must work tonight so I had to pack all of my time into this morning.

One of the few flags fluttering in the nonexistent breeze was on top of the Empress Hotel. I can only surmise that the majority of the people downtown were tourists as they stopped at the most inopportune moments right in front of me to take pictures of statues or Kabuki cab drivers.

A huge crowd was gathered around this guy so I just had to see what was going on. He had an assistant holding torches that had yet to be lit so I expect he was going to be juggling fire at some point in time. Why he would want to in this heat is beyond me.

This is an HMCS ship parked alongside the Night Market. I found some gorgeous Carnival masks imported from Italy that were for sale but came away empty-handed. They asked for no pictures and I couldn't find one that I absolutely loved. Ideally I'd like to fly to Venice during Carnival and purchase one there instead of one exported to Victoria.

The crowds were still as bad as ever when I left. Businesses downtown were making a killing, especially the ice cream stands. Those lines clogged up various sidewalks, including the ones I was walking on.

Now that I've seen your photos (and apparently the route you walk to work?) I understand your comments on my post. Gorgeous weather, yeah?

I am not positive on the hostel name, but I do believe there was yellow paint involved.

I'll be back in your fair city within the year, as my mother is planning her next kayaking trip for the Canadian side of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
